The Shjins To Release New Album On Own Record Label

The Shins will release their as-yet-untitled fourth album on frontman James Mercer’s own record label, it's been revealed.

The deal with Aural Apothecary records, which is an all-encompassing pressing and distribution agreement, has thrown into question the band’s future with Sub Pop records.

The Shins have released their last three records – ‘Oh, Inverted World’, ‘Chutes Too Narrow’ and ‘Wincing the Night Away’ – with the popular indie label.

Speaking to Billboard, the band’s manager Ian Montone said that new deal Aural Apothecary might not be the end of their relationship with Sub Pop.

"That partner could very well remain Sub Pop, who have done a remarkable job with the band and have a great staff of people who really love music,” he said.

“It could be a digital partner with respect to other rights. All of this is being determined. The first goal is to make the record and see where that takes us."

Commenting on the news, Sub Pop general manager Megan Jasper said that the label would “love to continue working with” the band.

The band's last album, 'Wincing The Night Away', charted at number tow on the US Billboard album chart last year.
